Joann moved to Columbia in 1985 to take a position in public relations and marketing at University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics and witnessed its growth to a multi-hospital health system by the time she retired in 2012. “My husband worked at MU in soil science at the College of Agriculture and our three kids are graduates of Hickman and Rock Bridge.
“We love going to Colorado in the summer and love Denver, Breckinridge, Steamboat, and Telluride, but I think the most beautiful part of the state is around Ouray near the San Juan Mountains.
“After I retired, I learned to play bridge and enjoy playing it with friends. I’m an avid reader and think Columbia’s library is one of its greatest resources. I’m a big fan of Louise Penny, so her latest book, World of Curiosities, is my favorite so far this year. Next on my list is Lessons in Chemistry.
“This year my osteopenia changed to osteoporosis, so I knew I needed to add weight-bearing exercises to my fitness routine. While other gyms may be about performance, Met-Fitness is about tailoring a program that fits your individual needs. Mason and Cheryl take the time to ensure you are exercising safely with proper form and progressing at a level that is appropriate but challenging. I love their holistic approach and emphasis on healthy lifestyle choices.”
